Lowash?

I've been getting a LOWASH warning on the odo for a few days. I poured about 1/4 bottle into the wash res, and it was full. But I'm still getting the stupid "beep" and LOWASH everytime I start the KJ.

Do I need to do a key dance or something to clear it?

Sensor might be bad. Not sure if you can replace the sensor or you have to replace the whole thing.

If not then that's why you feel that way.

Yes, everyone is supposed to check their fluids, I agree, but here in Michigan, during the winter, salt is king, and the worst thing that could possibly happen next to losing control on ice or snow, is losing visibility due to low washer fluid, which could lead to the worst thing. It has happened to me too many times already and I've only been through 2 winters with my KK, coming up on 3.

I need washer fluid right now!

Guess I'll call the local dealer and see what they say. I don't need it fixed right away, but as Marlon mentioned, since winter is the time for major washer fluid use, I'll need to get it fixed before the snow flies.

My XJ didn't have it, and I always hauled a bottle of fluid around. On a long road trip in crappy conditions, it's not impossible to go thru a whole tank in one day or two.

I've been thinking about rigging up a low washer fluid warning lamp. I'd think all I needed to do is run some power to a KJ sensor, which would trigger a light? Drill a hole, place an LED somewhere near the instrument cluster, problem solved...sort of.

why don't you just...

a) carry a full/fresh bottle in the back along with any other recovery gear you carry for the winter.
b) remember to fill the washer bottle every day you use the squirters?

really it's not that hard to go "I used fluid today. I should top it up just in case."

Amazing you can use an entire bottle in a day. I've never used an entire bottle between oil changes. That's when I always top the washer fluid off with rainx.

I've emptied an entire reservoir too. A 20 degree, sunny winter day after a fresh snowfall driving on the highway. Snow melts from the salt and sun, cars are creating spray that instantly freezes to the windshield. Only way to keep any vision at all is to keep spraying the windshield with the washer fluid. Without it the wipers just spread the salt film around and the windshield gets an opaque coating on it.

I like the Lo Wash idiot light and chime :shrug:

Not amazing to those of us who have to deal with salt on what can sometimes be a daily basis, with commutes long enough!

I use my KJ for rural delivery .. for me it's the bug factor. I drive through sections of county road and get mobbed by dragon flies, executing dozens at a time. I go through about a jug a week.

periodic applications of Rain-X and the use of the windshield defroster should help you reduce your washer fluid consumption.

The difference is the chemicals they put on the road. I drive through 25 miles of farmland to get to work. They don't maintain the roads out that way. Don't need to use much washer fluid then. But on the interstates and main roads going north, they're always plowing and putting chemicals down, and I go through a ton of fluid on those trips. And no the rain-x doesn't do a thing to help.

I've had pretty good luck with Rain-X for keeping the windshield streak free in the rain/snow. But for salt/road grime/spray it doesn't seem to do much.

Don't get me wrong, we use a full washer reservoir everyday in the wo Ted too.
But we also carry an additional 8 litres of washer fluid with us all year round.
Use even more when off roading.
