If you just want to wire a light in-line with a existing light, I recommend an LED puck or strip. LEDs are use 80% more efficient than a standard bulb. Less draw. Very easy install.

The kicker is that it won't exactly look "factory". But for a simple install, we use LEDs all the time mainly for the low voltage draw.

I'm sorry, what are you talking about?
I have LED side indicators, license plate, back up, and brake bulbs.

There are some direct replacements available for the standard sockets for stop/turn/tail, parking lights, etc.

I suggest your local Auto Parts retailer or looking for what suits you on the internet. (As always research before using an online retailer. I have no personal experience woth these listed, but I have heard positive feedback on ledtronics from friends.

It's easy, but disconnect your battery before, I didn't blew two fuses.
The front side indicators are "168's", those can be found on Ebay, that goes for the License plate light. You'll need 4, with 1 extra at the end.
Then I bought 2 "side shooting" backup LED lights...

these

They have to be kind, so the light energy hits the reflector.
and then I bought 2 in RED for the brake lights. They have to be red, something about the red energy goes through the red lense, but white is diffused.

That's as much as I've done so far. I love LED's The backups aren't the brightest, but I feel they're the same as before, and I feel the brake lights are slightly brighter than before, and they "blink" on and off. And no one has hit me, and everything is very visible. I have not seen any sort of dimishing light or otherwise.
The license plate light isn't bright at all, but you have to one, and now it will never burn out, just like the others. I'm very happy.

Southeast of disorder...
Another nice thing about having the red LED tail/brake lights is that if you happen to wind up with a cracked or broken tail light cover the light is still RED, not white, so you don't need to use that annoying red-colored tape to cover the hole.

I tried a set of the white LEDs to be used as DRL in one of our GMC work trucks. They lasted only 60 days before both had problems. To get the brightness output, I think they over drive the LEDs. Anyway good luck with them.
