I'm replacing the passenger cvjoint and intermediate shaft. I noticed the oem one had a thin oring that I assume helped to keep water out of the splines. My new parts arrived without this oring. Is it something that was omitted or should I try to source one? The new intermediate shaft was a dana replacement from Rock Auto and doesn't appear to have a large enough groove to fit an oring regardless. I'm guessing the answer will be to pack the splines with grease and send it but figured someone might shed some light on the oring omission.

Mine didn't have any o-ring.

I'm quite sure the seal in the diff housing seals against the CV axle snout.

I just greased up the splines and installed, new problem is that the intermediate shaft won't stay locked into the cv. The original one had to be tapped out with a hammer but the new dana one I got from rock auto can be pulled apart easily by hand. Going to try the original lock ring as it appears to be slightly larger.

Had same issue with the new spicer one - just take pliers and pry a little on the inside of the c clip. Just a little makes a difference.

Also i tried to salvage the old o ring and it got wiped by assembling the new intermediate cv shaft together

I used the old one but that would be a good alternative. I also tried reusing the oring but it was just too brittle.
