Finally getting around to posting some pictures from last weekend's trip to Manistee NF in Michigan. (all of the pics can be found HERE)
Despite all the snow that the area received just about a week or so before the trip, this was about all the snow we encountered on the trails:
Along one of the riverbanks:
It seems we were probably the first ones on several of the forest roads this season. There were a lot of downed trees we had to remove so we could continue on:
Our winch was put to quite a bit of use clearing the larger trees:
I nicknamed this obstacle "Double Jeopardy". The first puddle would have been no problem:
The second one, however...after much careful measuring:
Since we were on the trails alone, we decided to turn around.
Some of the few signs of wildlife we saw all weekend:
At Nichols Lake:
A couple of the cool jeeps we saw both in town and out near the trails:
MarlonJBT decided to join us on Sunday:
Probably one of the most um, interesting, obstacles we encountered that weekend:
Here comes the winch to the rescue!
Yes, we did go off the established trail to get around the car, but we were careful in choosing which way we went so as to cause the least amount of disturbance.
Along the Marquette River:
It was a great time as usual. Hopefully on the next trip we can have more people come along.
