Took off my front bumper today, and so had to remove the turn signal lamps. I don't have Haynes, I only have the FSM, and once you've removed the lamp body it just says "Disengage the locking mechanism".
It's not a red locking slider thing, it's one of those plastic tangs that you either press down or pull up while pulling the connector apart, but there's no indication about which you're supposed to do. I obviously did it the wrong way because when I pulled the connector apart, the tang sheared off.
I figured I'd put that down to experience and planned to wrap the connector in tape when I put it back together, and started on the driver side lamp... only to discover that the connector was wrapped in electrical tape. I unwrapped it and what do you know, the same thing had already happened on that side... and the only place that could have happened was at the dealership.
I've never removed that turn signal myself and I've had the Jeep from new. I was once hit by a piece of wood that fell off the back of a truck, and it smashed the driver side signal. Clearly, when the dealership fixed it they didn't know how to disengage the connector lock either... :icon_eek:
