Hi, all. I've got an '03 sport with 140K miles, and it's leaking something causing a pretty bad smell. I think I've found the source, but I have no idea how to even begin looking for parts. Here's a pic, and if it's too small, you can see it at: http://img832.imageshack.us/img832/2396/20121202141019.jpg

It looks like oil, and I took the pic while lying under the engine. If it is, what's leaking?

Additionally, I've got a weird metal rubbing noise coming from the back wheels. Turns into a whine under acceleration. I have enough power steering fluid, and the rear diff fluid was changed last year. When I take my foot off the accelerator, the whining stops, but the metal/grindy noise is still there. Any thoughts on this are also appreciated.

The valve cover gasket is leaking oil which is then dropping right onto the catalytic converter. Do you notice the smell when you come to a stop sign or red light? And the smell goes away when you're moving? If so that will confirm the leaking gasket.

Your pic is from the driver's side, correct? There is probably a leak on the passenger side as well. If you're reasonable handy with a wrench the gaskets aren't that difficult to replace. I had my local dealer quote the passenger side (the more difficult side due to heater lines) and they wanted $220. Said no thanks, bought a set of gaskets from them for about $60 and replaced them myself.
