How to tell what OEM radio was installed in a 2002 Jeep Liberty Limited??

I have since replaced it, but with my factory CD player I found that burning them at the slowest possible speed cut down on duds by a good bit. I was about 50-50 before (at high speed burning), then got to about a 90% success rate by going slow. As cheap as CD blanks are nowadays that was acceptable, though I made sure to test everything before heading off on a long road trip.

My new head unit has a USB connection for mp3, so I've never even tested an audio CD in the optical drive.

You might also experiment with different brands of blanks. I seem to remember that I had good luck with Phillips, but don't buy 100 of them until you've tested them for yourself in your player. And don't pay extra for those "music' CD blanks because all you're paying for there is a royalty donation to the poor starving artists.

I'm not sure about the radio plugs for converting but I'm with Prof. I always burn at slow speed. I have the same unit in my 02 as you had in your 02 and used burnt CDs often. I like the Phillips and also Memorex. Actually just the cheap ones. Mine work in the main unit and the 6 disc changer.

If you can swap units with the cassette unit from the 02 then you could just get one of those cheap cassette converters with the jack for your phone or ipod. I use one from time to time. I have the MP3 capabilities or USB in my other vehicles but never got around to upgrading the KJ. I was all set to do it a few years back but blew a headgasket so put it off. Fixed the HGs and that was about three years and 30k back but just haven't pulled the trigger. I'm not much of a sound quality guy since I only have about 50% hearing from one ear and maybe 75% from the other.

We recently purchased a 2002 Limited with the RBP and haven't had any issues with CD copies (which we do to keep the originals safe from damage in a car environment). My wife's been playing some old copies from years ago as well as some new ones that I just burned for her. Nothing special on the copy (Power2Go copy disc), 24x speed and TDK blanks currently.

These are disc copies and not mp3's?

...These are disc copies and not mp3's?...
That's a good point. Most CD burning software will let you convert mp3 to the CDA (CD Audio) to make it playable as a straight audio CD. Whether it does a good job of that is another matter...

As for burning mp3 straight to disc in their mp3 format, forget it. Some aftermarket players will do that, but none of the factory stereos. (At least that I know of.)

What are you using to burn the discs and how are you doing it? A 100% dud rate tells me something is not right somewhere in the process. (Or you are just incredibly unlucky...) :icon_neutral:

I finally found a solution. I tried copying a CD using Windows Media Player, and this copy would play on both the RBP and RBK radios. So I am happy with that. I just don't want to carry around my original CD's, as some are "out of print" and would cost a lot of $ to replace. You would be surprised what some of the early CD's are going for now!
I paid $40 for and out of print Three Dog Night CD that I had the cassette of, since I was a teenager! You know some of those old tunes bring back great memories of the past, when you were young, and hadn't had a care in the world...

I would never take a "real" CD anywhere for exactly the reasons you state. Back in the cassette days I would even copy those. (I had a high-end deck.) My tape case got swiped once and I was out about $50 instead of $500.
