how do i know which rear end i have?

chrysler 8.25 or dana? does it go by which year or could it possibly be either? sorry for the noob questions.

im pretty sure ive got the LSD because the rear end will step out when i give it some throttle in a straight line in the rain.

They only installed a very few 35s right in the very beginning ( 2001) so you have the 8.25
So it can't be either

so im trying to find the bearing for the rear axle. looking at rock auto there are a bunch listed with all different widths. same OD & ID but different widths, how do i know which one to get? what is the width of that bearing supposed to be? i tried looking on a jeep parts website and they only have one choice but it doesnt list the dimensions.

They're all made to work, just different manufacturers have slightly different width dimensions. Timken would be the one you want to get, #6408 is the standard replacement.
The Timken #TRP1559TV is a "repair" bearing; it's offset to make the rollers ride on a different spot on the axle, in case the old bearing chewed up your axle. You won't know that until you take it apart. Was the old bearing making noise?

no the rear bearings are not making noise they are going to be replaced because the axle shaft on the PS is bent and might as well do the bearings while im there. thanks for clearing up what a repair bearing is also!
