My girlfriend brought her 05 liberty into the shop last week to have the compressor checked. They said that it needed a new a/c compressor (approx 1,000 to fix). Today, she stopped at the Jeep dealership to check out possibly leasing something newer. When the service manager popped the hood, he asked her why here a/c compressor was un-plugged. Secondly, he pointed out that her radiator fan was not working. He said that the reason why she may not have noticed her car was overheating was because she only drove on the highway to work and did not do any city driving (her apartment is a block from the highway and her job is right off the highway as well). Regardless, her liberty began to smoke at the jeep dealership and she had to leave it there.

If anyone is familiar with the jeep liberty engine compartment, is it possible that the mechanic that she brought the jeep to last week forgot to plug the a/c compressor back in? Additionally, do you have to disconnect the radiator fan to get to the a/c compressor? My girlfriend does not have the money to spend to buy anything new much less the means to lease anything. Therefore, she will need to fix the jeep. However, I would like to know if it is possible that the mechanic that she brought the jeep to last week is responsible for the radiator fan not working. If it was not working prior to last week, the mechanic would have spotted it and addressed it last week when he looked at the a/c. However, it was never mentioned. Today, the jeep dealership told her that not only was her radiator fan not working, but her a/c compressor was un-plugged as well.

I would appreciate anyone's input/opinion on this. Thanks and have a good weekend.

If her compressor was toast, they probably did her the favor of unplugging it, so it doesnt cause issues if it tries to engage, ie. turning on the defrost, etc. Its possible if the fan isnt working, it led to early failure of the compressor, due to high pressures. What he said was true, if she did hwy driving, she wouldnt notice it overheating. Either replace the fan/or whatever is causing it to not work, or trade it off before she cooks the engine, or the valve seats come loose in the head from overheating.
