Sounds to me like a possible air bleed problem or caused by air entering the system.
Notice any leaks ? Is the coolant tank remaining full or do you have to add any Hoat coolant ?
Is the jeep reaching temperature to half on the temp gauge?
If the Jeep (not car thanks) never gets to half on temp gauge, it is time to replace the thermostat, as it is probably stuck open!

X2 above. Just to be clear, when you say the heating stops, the fan is still running, right?

hi thanks the temp gauge reaches half way and the fan keeps going just no heat then it starts heating again. i have put coolant in thought that might be the problem but not sure if it helped.

Still sounds like air going through. Keep an eye on coolant level as it will "burp" down eventually. Also make sure you don't have mixed coolant in there that "can" cause sludge and plugging. By mix I mean the Chrysler recommended HOAT coolant mixed with the standard Prestone-like common coolants. Even though they say they will mix with anything, it's turned out to be not true.

How many miles are on on your KJ? If you are adding coolant chances are you have a leak somewhere.
Pressure test system first and hope it is not a fine crack in rad. If so get a new Mopar rad, they last a long time.
The dealer can do a reasonable priced service using their flush machine and ensure they use HOAT.
If you are high miles above 150k miles and the system is all original, after passing a pressure test, I would want new hoses, thermostat etc.

Hi Cris, the heat in my jeep liberty was going from hot to cold, and back and forth. This was the result of low coolant level, due to a leak. You could have a leaking radiator, or maybe a water pump? Have you mechanic check it out before it turns into a more costly expense. also if you vehicle overheats it can damage your engine!
