Howdy All,

A couple of weeks ago I noticed my Daughters 2009 KK AKA ”Quackers” was loosing heat at the heater vents. I fixed this once before by flushing and reverse flushing the heater core 2 years ago. This time I reversed the heater hoses and let her drive it like that for two weeks. Her heat was immediately better with the heater hoses reversed. Today I added a heater hose filter on the inlet heater hose and reinstalled the heater hoses in the proper orientation. The temperature at the vents is now 168-172 deg F! Nice an hot! I drove it 3 miles and checked all connections for leaks. No leaks! However, I can see crap being trapped in the filter already! The filter has a magnet inside to catch metallic debris too. The filter can be cleaned by removing and reverse flushing or by dissembling. Hopefully this filter will prevent future heater core plug ups! I figure cleaning the filter is easier than flushing the heater core.

Where did you find that?

I found it on Ebay. See link below.

BTW, I did a complete coolant flush last fall using a Prestone coolant system flush kit. I managed to capture about 1/2 a teaspoon of debris during the coolant flush. The debris captured can best be described as casting sand. This is also what was captured when I flushed the heater core 2 years ago. The hard part about flushing the cooling system on the 3.7 is getting all water completely drained out. There is about a gallon of water/coolant that can't be drained without removing the exhaust manifold to access the drain plugs on the block. I did not remove the block drain plugs and only drained the system by removing the lower radiator hose. So there was probably some debris left in the block. The cooling system was refilled using ZEREX G05 (HOAT) mixed 50/50. I was hoping that performing the cooling system flush would be a good preventative measure from future heater core blockages however the heater core began to plug up in about a year.
My hope now is running this filter and hopefully catching what was left behind after the cooling system flush and preventing future heater core blockages.
