My 2004 Liberty suddenly developed a loud metal on metal noise that I believe I have isolated to the front differential area. It seems to becoming from the area where the driveshaft attaches to the differential. I see that I can replace the CV head on the transfer case side of the driveshaft is it the same on the differential side? or is my noise being cause by something else?

I checked the fluid level and it has enough fluid in the front diff.

99% of the time the rear CV boot goes bad on the front driveshaft. As you have found it is very easy to replace and cheap as well.
You can remove the front driveshaft and drive without it to see if that takes care of the noise or not
