when fueling my libby the gas always spills over when the tank is full. What might be causing that?

It's an issue with many KJs
Mine used to do it as well, but I've now started to keep track of how many gallons mine takes, then when it gets close I squeeze the trigger half way and it stops as it should and doesn't create spill back anymore

It's a crap shoot. All online sources showed it out of stock a couple of days ago. Many show it as discontinued. I called a local GM dealer that said one place in the country showed it in stock, but when I called they said it was committed for someone that was bringing their vehicle in for repair. Another source says they don't show it as discontinued but rather backordered by GM

This morning, Amazon suddenly showed 2 in stock. I ordered one, and now they're showing out of stock again and not knowing if it will be back in stock. I'm waiting now to see if they actually ship it.

How about Jeep come up with a solution instead of replacing a gas tank and get their own hose that fits.

2nd gen Durangos (04-09) had the same issue. I had an 05 that did it worse than the KJ and I think they got recalled 4 or 5 years ago. The KJ when it does it, usually gives a bit of a warning and it trickles out. The Durango would nail the pump you were at and anything else within 15 feet lol.

Mine's never done it knock on wood.

Although being in Jersey...I wouldn't be the one dealing with the spill...:D

Damn... mine never did it before and suddenly last month for the first time it did it in a big way. Now every single time it does it... I even try to listen for the sound (pitch) to change right before its full but even letting go at that point doesn't help. Jeep stinks of gas for the next couple days, as do my shoes and hands if I don't move quick enough.

Bit of a pain, but at least there's an explanation. (Mine by the way is a Canadian model, no CA model)

I find that if I slow the pump down a lot for the last gallon or two, I don't get splashback.

I'm pretty good at guesstimating how much it will take to fill it, so I never get splashed unless I'm distracted.

We have no locks on any of our self serve stations, only the ones with service still have them. I used to just cram the fuel cap into the lever but the Jeep one doesn't reach without removing it from the clip. I am also pretty good at estimating within a small enough margin and see if the slower fill speed in the final stage helps.

That really does make sense on the danger of locking fuel pumps... but almost every single pump I've ever used here in Michigan in the past 15+ years has had them.

I rarely use it, and if I do, I'm still standing at the pump with my hand on the handle.. I use it to avoid hand fatigue when filling large volumes of fuel. My hand cramps up quickly due to minor arthritis and a previous injury..
