Gas milage "02 Liberty Limited??

Just found KJ Country (great information): We recently purchase a low milage, used '02 liberty limited 3.7 for our son. Vehicle was purchased new by young lady in WV and left it sit in her fathers garage for more than 2 years. We had a dealer replace hoses, belts, repair vacuum leaks, brakes, oil , service trans-axel, wipers, brighter headlights etc. However, the Liberty only gets approximately 13-14 miles per gallon hwgh/city driving. Is this milage common and/or any way to improve it. Great forum, thanks for the assistance.

that a bit too low, I think for the usual average (about 16) for highway
not by much.......

how long ago was the purchase made...dunno, drive it around for a few weeks then recalc..and see...

we have had the Liberty since late last fall and the milage never seems to vary. Driving home from WV to Ohio ,when we purchased it, we only averaged 16 mpg on the hwgh. thanks...

Yeah that is a little low. Have you reset the trip computer? On long highway stretches I can get up to 19 mpg, while my combined is typically 16.9 mpg.

My wife works for a newspaper and does alot of city driving and 14 all/mostly city is where our '02 comes in at (I think I'm going to put some new plugs in this spring, see if that helps). I'm driving the '05 now and getting about 17 in mixed (city/hwy) driving. It always comes in around 19/21 on hwy trips though.

Yes newspaper jobs are not friendly on cars as far as miles go, espically for photographers, writters have it a bit easier.

WildStar, where in WV did you get the KJ?

I get 21 on the HW. Thats with a lift, hitch, 12in sub in the back in a huge box, and full skids. Stock tires though, Ill change that soon though.

I work in Clarksburg... and I've driven to Cinci from here in Morgantown but took I70. I was guessing you got it in Huntington or Kenova or somewhere closer to the Ohio River.

Why wait until spring for the new spark plugs? It is really cheap to do and very easy. No need for a dealer to do the spark plugs. I noticed a difference when mine were replaced (about 1 mpg increase).

I just have a near freakish hatred of temps below 60. I hate the cold, if I could I would be more south than north.

I average around 14 but I got 18 on the highway from Nashville to Chicago

Go ahead rub it in. It wasn't too bad here the past couple of days. I cut the grass and detailed the '05, now my wife switched and left the '02 wrost than the one I just cleaned.

You'll be rubbing it in in about a month when it is 110 degrees though. Looks like you got another project with the '02. Oh well, anytime I get too disappointed about my clean car getting filthy I just think about the fact that I can't leave it in a glass case forever. By the way, how's your tire pressures for mileage? Everytime my parents bring their Dodge in, the dealer does the wrong pressures.

i get about 21 highway, somewhere around 16-17 city, but most of our "city" is 40-45 mph.

Acording to the computer anyways, never bothered to calculate it out. O

I run about 38 psi, others on the forum go a tad higher (around 40 I think).

Well, I run at 35 psi, so you've got higher pressures than me. So that's definitely not it.
