front differential passenger side gear worn out?

have anyone here had their side gear which mates with the intermediate shaft wear out? My mechanic and I think this is what's happened and that I'm going to need to pull my front diff to bring it in for a rebuild

mechanic told me last time he was in there replacing my intermediate shaft that the gear it slots with was on its last legs and he had to file it a bit to retain the shaft. He mentioned the next time it pops out it was likely toast and I'd need to pull my front diff

im pretty sure it has popped out and i lost the retaining pin, when starting from stop if i start to hard in 4x4 it seems to be lose power on that side and I hear a sort of buzz, the shaft is also out more than usual similar to the last time i replaced the intermediate shaft
