So I had the Jeep up today checking the engine for leaks.(I have dye in it). I came across a big hole in the frame near the transmission mount. So I am a newbie , but my thought is that since the other side is solid, cut out the compromises frame, and get some 1/4 thick rectangle steel tube to bolt and weld into plate.
ideas?

I would cut out the rusted area but leave as much as possible
Then cover the frame section as far back and forward as you can on both sides
Drill holes in the new metal and weld ( plug weld ) each one to old sections
Then rust proof it and smile !
