Have you checked the price of ATF+4? To do a flush/filter change they will be using about 20-24qts of the stuff,then add .8 hours labor for the flush and another .8 hours labor for the pan drop to change the filter.So no it's not alot.

well no I didn't mean a lot for the amount of work.. I meant a lot for a 17 year old kid with small pay.. I'm sorry I'll specify more next time

I meant 60 000 MILES/100 000 KMs. That's what my manual says under the 'B' schedule. They is a little '*' next to the transmission drain/refill/change filters line. That '*' stays that this item should be done only if you do serious towing or use the vehicle for commercial purposes. It also says the exact same thing in the little maintenance book.

You guys want me to scan my manual? :rolleyes:

Just checked my dad's Durango manual. It says to drain/refill transmission and change filters every 120 000 KMs/75 000 MILES.

i wonder if you could apply a small amount of pressure to the trans cooler line while the pan is dropped to get the rest of the fluid out?

just thinking out loud???:confused:

thats how they do the flush i assume...thru the cooler line??

seems like a waste of time to drop the pan if we can only get half the fliud out.....but then again why flush if yu cant change the filters??:rolleyes:

I've done this in the past on other vehicles.....

Drop the pan, change the filter.

Overfill the transmission slightly

pull the return line to the trans and aim into a pan/bucket (I suppose you may have to get some tubing - the vehicle I did this on had the return line aiming down.

Start the vehicle and slowly move it through the gears. You'll see the dirty fluid come clean as the galleys and lines flush of the old fluid. Once you see clean, move to the next gear.

Shut off vehicle, reattach return line, fill trans to proper level.

Oh - and you'll need a lovely assistant to move through the gears while you watch. You'll also want to put in the parking brake, chaulk the wheels, and select an assistant you trust as obviously the vehicle will be in gear and running. ;)

When I had my old S-10 Blazer, I dropped the pan and started it up with the remote car starter. As soon as I saw the fluid stop coming out, I immediately shut if off with the remote car starter.

It worked and never hurt the transmission(that I could tell), but I won't try it with my KJ.
