Drop the pan and change the filter every 30k and dont flush it.

I plan on dropping the pan every 30k and sucking the fluid out of the ****** dip stick every 15k.

ATF+4 is not cheap and why a flush using ATF+4 is not cheap.Actually I highly recommend a trans flush be done at a dealership since they will use the correct fluid, have the correct flush machine, and it comes with a 12month/12,000 miles warranty which is well worth the extra cost.Almost all of those quick lube places will not use ATF+4 but stat they do,they just add a additive to DEXIII and call it ATF+4(which can never happen).

Yup I agree. That is one thing that I would let a Jeep dealership do. The 42RLE ****** is fragile enough as it is, no sense in messing with it yourself. Get the flush done at your local dealership.

Lucky guy, you have the Dodge Ram ******. But anyway, a full flush should be done by a Jeep dealership. They have the equipment for that. You can do an oil change yourself however. Drop the pan, change the filter, refill. But that ain't a flush and that doesn't reset the TCM.

I also take My precious KJ to stealership for the ****** maintenance. I get the bonus of having them look it over while it is up on the hoist, and have them check the Ball joints out too. Who knows you might even get a freebe$ out of them LOL.

Make sure you ask for a full flush + new filters. My dad had it done on his 00 Durango earlier this year. Cost him close to 300$CDN.

I'm still some ways off before I have to get it done on my KJ. Manual says to do it at 60 000 miles and that is only if you use the KJ for serious towing or commercial purposes. If you don't, you don't need to change it, ever. I guess ATF+4 must be a magical fluid that Chrysler brewed up lol.

Why does the manual state 60k and only if you tow a lot or use the vehicle for commercial purposes?
My owners manual states every 30,000 miles for anytime you drive in hotter temps over 90 degrees, lower temps then freezing, short trips, and towing. That pretty much includes 99.99% of all vehicles driven in the world.

Do they all use the proper machine?

I thought I remembered you naming the proper machine and saying some dealers use it, some don't.

My KJ needs a trans flush and I'd like to get it done properly, but as everyone has stated, I am skittish due to the sensitivity these things have with the proper fluid.

I also want to make sure they both change the filter and flush it.

well I have 265/75/16 which is putting more strain on the trans but that's a whole other topic/thread.. plus my fluid is pretty dirty so as to not damage the trans any further than already. i want to make sure to change it with new stuff.

Dealerships are required to have the proper machines for flushes, and if they screw it up you still have there warranty which is also required.Your looking at about $300 for the filter change and flush.

Have you checked the price of ATF+4? To do a flush/filter change they will be using about 20-24qts of the stuff, then add .8 hours labor for the flush and another .8 hours labor for the pan drop to change the filter. So no it's not alot.

Apparently he hasn't checked the price of a transmission rebuild, either
