I have been doing a lot of research for a new exhaust system for my KJ; I have browsed multiple threads from various forums and watched numerous YouTube video clips. After all my research, I have decided to just replace the OEM muffler with an aftermarket muffler. My goal is to increase HP and torque while also improving gas mileage; I am not expecting huge gains though. An aggressive sound is also very important when choosing my muffler.

I am interested the FlowMaster Super 10 Series since this is FlowMaster's most aggressive sounding muffler [http://tiny.cc/hr9j0]. I can not locate a video clip of this muffler installed on 3.7L V6 engine. I was wondering if anyone has this muffler installed on their KJ. If so, how do you like it? I know a lot of people are happy with their FlowMaster Super 44 for its aggressive sound. Since the Super 10 Series is new, I am assuming it has a more powerful rich tone. Any information in regards to the Super 10 Series would be much appreciated! Thanks in advance for your help!

The super 10 is not new, just some new sizes. They are a single chamber muffler and will sound like crap on the 3.7 and you will loose alot of low end torque with one installed. It will sound just like a KJ without a muffler, maybe just a few decibles lower is all.

I went with a Flowmaster 40 series. Here's my annoying post-wisdom teeth removal video of the day it went on:

Which reminds me I need a new video.

I feel like it's added a bit to the throttle response but that could just be my imagination. I like the throaty sound it has. Not too girly, not too beefy.

Why do you think the Super 10 will sound like crap on the 3.7? Also, how would I loose a lot of low end torque?
You might want to check this sight out for a little more info on the 3.7

I did go with the Magnaflow and vary happy I did. great ground clearence and great performance. Warning its not cheap
On my Acura CL, I did custom 3" mandrel bent tubing from the cat-back to dual 3" inlet/4" outlet MagnaFlow Race Series mufflers [http://tiny.cc/byyvk]. They look and sound great, but I thought I would try another company this time...

Your video is the best one that I found on YouTube that sounded the best with the Super 44 installed on a Liberty. I like the sound of the Super 44 but I would like something a littler louder, like what's installed on that Dodge in the video. I know videos typically never portray the actual sound of the exhaust. Does your Super 44 sound a lot louder in person?

The super 10 is basically just like a straight pipe as they are designed for racing apps that require a muffler but can not afford the restriction that most have.My buddies have them on there drag cars('70 Nova and '70 Demon) as per there class rules and on the dyno they lost about 1hp with the added Super 10's(5" in,5" out X2 per vehicle). The 3.7 likes some back pressure that the super 10 will not provide and there goes all the low end power, plus a V6 like the 3.7 sounds terrible uncorked and you do run the risk burning the exhaust valves.

For info on back pressure read:

http://www.nsxprime.com/FAQ/Miscellaneous/exhausttheory.htm

http://www.thrashercharged.com/tech_htm/exhaust.shtm

http://www.thumpertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=659727

http://www.aa1car.com/library/exhaust_backpressure.htm

http://www.uucmotorwerks.com/html_product/sue462/backpressuretorquemyth.htm

For all you tl;dr types, bottom line for any internal combustion engine: back pressure = horsepower pushing on exhaust gases instead of turning crankshaft = bad PERIOD
The liberty likes the best exhaust pulse velocity:gr_grin: with minimized back pressure:poop:.

The reason big pipes are bad is not a reduction in back pressure but a reduction in exhaust velocity. Which reduces scavenging. Which messes up air/fuel mixtures. Which reduces torque and increases temps to the point of burning valves.

Why would you want to be louder? You like ******* people off? Recently my area passed a 90 decibel law... they aren't enforcing it yet but I'm looking forward to a few ******** in my town with straight pipe s10 trucks, Ford rangers and that new Audi getting fix it tickets. The ricer thing has just gone too far. That Audi sounds like a giant 6000 rpm chainsaw. So glad none of those dorks live next to me, I've got kids that need to sleep and a touch of PTSD. I love a deep exhaust note and I'm looking forward to a series 50... they aren't horrifically loud and ratty.

I'm with tjkj on this...the 3.7L sounds like garbage with anything but a quiet muffler on it IMHO. Some guys go with a Magnaflow or Flowmaster 40, and I guess if that's what they want then to each his own...but V6's were not meant to sound aggressive and when you put an aggressive muffler on one, well, it just sounds funny. Weird funny and ha-ha funny.
