Well I have put about 1500 miles on this 2002 liberty so far and last night on the way home I heard the rear shoes dragging and a grinding sound when applying the brakes......pulled the wheels off and found this ...the lower "blue" shoe to shoe spring was broken. One piece was still hanging from the perch and the other stubby piece was rolling around in the wheel. Dealer says $5 for the part and will be here Tuesday ...luckily I had a spring laying around I made work off another vehicle . It should be o.k. until then. Now there was no excuse for not painting those nasty rusty rear drums gloss black.... which i did at this time and they look nice.....John

you can get a complete set of springs, clips and adjuster for drum brakes at a parts store for about $3.
