2004 Jeep Liberty
v6 automatic
80k miles (had it since 64k)
Car stalls at stoplights randomly, poor gas mileage, random codes that aren't fixed when sensors are replacement and PCM reset, misfires even with new coils and plugs, etc. Even get a engine too cold code within 2-3 minutes of starting. It only starts every 3-5 cranks now.
Mechanic has determined it's PROBABLY the PCM. It already has a reman transmission control unit when we bought it.
What is my best and/or cheapest route? Mechanic said he doesn't have the software to reprogram it and even if it did, doesn't have the security 4 digit code. Said a dealership would run $500+.
I did some searching and found a couple sites that sell reprogrammed PCM's for $200 or so, just provide VIN, mileage, and EXACT PCM part numbers. Is this a legit way to go or just a scam? I called Auto Computer Exhange . Net and they were very helpful on the phone....so I at least know they sort of know what they are talking about $250 gets a reprogrammed PCM to my info and a lifetime warranty.
I'm not broke but if I can save a few hundred, I want to. Who likes spending more money than they need to?
Any help is appreciated. Thank you.
