So, I was hoping I could get some feedback from some of you that have installed EVICs. I apologize for starting yet ANOTHER thread on this, but I'm scratching my head. I have successfully installed an EVIC in my 2004 liberty - it has worked well (without any problems) for about 8 months. About 5 months ago I was asked to install an EVIC in someone else's jeep (a 2002 model). The EVIC I installed worked well, but about 2 months later she started having some electrical issues with the jeep. A mechanic convinced her it was a bad battery, then a bad alternator (both of which she replaced). I suggested she let them know the EVIC was an "aftermarket" install, but to be aware the odds were good they were going to decide this was the problem without looking further. Which is (of course) what happened. They informed her that the EVIC was turning on several minutes after the jeep was turned off and draining the battery (I was able to verify none of this in person). They "fixed" the EVIC for her (I have no idea what the charge was) and insisted the EVIC was "wired all wrong".

I followed the instructions on this site for both installs. There are only 4 wires. Three are wired into the BCM (ground, fused B+, PCI) and one I wired into her radio ignition on. Her EVIC was functioning correctly (temp, mileage, etc) for several months. Actually, I'm not sure she ever had a problem with EVIC operation, she was just told it was causing her other problems. I would think if it was wired incorrectly it wouldn't work at all, or would cause a problem with the battery immediately (this was actually the opinion of mechanic as well). Am I crazy? If so, what did I screw up?

Just take the evic out and see if you still have problems. Then when the real problem is found, install the evic correctly (not implying your install was at fault). Use this to install. It says otis but still applies to evic as well. I've used this to install both an otis and evic.

Too Late

They already "fixed" it for her, so that ship has sailed. And the lesson of "touch someone else's jeep and be forever responsible for any future issues" has been well learned.

That is a good site for instructions, though (It's the site (or a mirror of the one) I used for the original install)........

Awe, too bad. Now that they all just guessed you'll never really know what the problem was. In their eyes your evic install was the problem.

i too had this issue, i guess when i installed it i mixed up the fused B and the ignition wires. so whenever my key is out the evic is black, but at night i can see a faint red glow on it(very very faint). i have a brand new battery now and my car doesnt sit for more than 12 hours so im fine but ill fix it someday.
Have her turn her key on then off in the dark and look closely to see if the faint red glow is there. the electronic odometer does the same thing after the car is off, but the glow will turn off after a minute

Hmm, that sounds reasonable (unfortunately the shop already fixed it for her so I can't have her check). They told her it was coming back on after a few minutes (not staying on - but who knows). I think there is a good chance it al was BS, but it's her money....
