Engine mount question

Hi guys,

well im in the process of putting an engine back in the kj, but i cant get the engine to mate up fully with the transmission, looks like the engine mounts are stopping it?
so my question is: when looking at the 2 mounts each side has the rubber which is short on one side and longer on the other, should the short rubbers be facing the transmission, as at the moment the thicker ones are facing the ******, or can the mounts only be fitted to the block a certain way ie they cant be put on the wrong way round??

What engine?

If it's the 3.7 you can not put the motor mounts on wrong,tehy only bolt on one way and thr right side will only bolt on the right and the left only on the left.

thanks tjkj, that was the exact answer i was looking for, my mechanic cannot get both dowels to locate properly, and i have severely stressed to him not to use the bolts to try and do it! brand new motor costing me $5000 au!
but cant figure why it wont mate up?
