I changed mine a month ago and put waterproof grease called Triple Grease, by Evinrude/Johnson, (for the propshaft on my outboard) on the splines where the shaft goes into the CV assembly. Seems most of them start to rust and then break down and seize up, from the pics I've seen and that's what my old one looked like.
