I've used my front hooks several times to pull cars out of snowbanks, but I have never yet had to be "rescued" myself.
I use a snatch strap long enough to loop through and hook one end on each tow hook to distribute the weight, and I've actually backed out a 3/4 ton dually with a dump bed full of salt before. The guy was pretty amazed (actually I was amazed too that I had enough traction).
