2003 Jeep Liberty
80k miles
Automatic Transmission
3.7L V6

Past repairs include: Broken valve spring. Replacement transmission ECM. All new plugs (3/13). 3k mile oil changes. Crank sensor x 4. Cam sensor x 3. IAC/TPS sensors x 1. Battery x 1 (3/13).

We've had this problem since early this year. It started off as the Jeep would die at stop signs without notice. A gentle stall, no jerking. Code said crank sensor, so we changed it and reset the PCM. Problem fixed.

Wrong.

Did the same thing again but this time it was the cam sensor. Again, replace, reset, fixed.

Nope.

Fast forward four months and we're still dealing with this issue. The car will constantly show the crank/cam sensor code(s) and be without symptoms. Then it will randomly just not start. It tries to turn over, has fuel and spark. But it just won't. It just cranks and cranks and cranks, about every four times it'll fire but it won't go over 2k RPM. All I have to do is reset the PCM and it runs fine again for a few weeks.

Bad PCM?
Bad Coil?
Short in the wiring harness?

I'm completely out of ideas and I'm about to sell it just to get out from underneath the loan and take a loss. I've never had this much trouble with a Chrysler product but this takes the cake. I'm well over $2k in repairs and diagnostics without a true fix, just band-aids.

After market or OEM sensors? I've seen a lot of problems with after market.

All aftermarket as far as I know (I'm not 100% sure what my mechanic put in, but I'm 99% sure it was aftermarket). If I need OEM, that'll be interesting. Me and the parts guy at the nearest dealership have had it out a few times.....I bring in the part itself, he still needs the VIN and refuses to sell me anything. The part is RIGHT THERE! Stupidity....

Could the supposed "lower quality" aftermarket ones be causing the intermittant issues I'm having? It'll go weeks driving just fine, then BAM. No start. Reset, and I'm good for another few weeks.

This ***** because I only owe 13 months on the Jeep but I've already dumped $2k into a $10k vehicle this year alone. I can say this, my girlfriend will not get another KJ! Maybe a KK (friends at work have had 0 issues).

Well all I can say is I have had to change out after market sensors on Kjs that owners put in for OEM only to have them get mad about it and later on have them come back and tell me it runs great now. Is that your case don't know with out looking at it but some after markets just don't have the same perimeters as OEM.
