My 07 liberty (235,000+) clicks when cold until it warms up. sometimes I hear it at idle during cold weather conditions and it tends to disappear when i rev it over 1500 rpm. I suspect the lash adjuster / rocker arms may be worn out and need replacing. I have found several similar threads and you tube videos showing similar issues and i'm wondering if it's common to replace these parts on liberty's with high km's and also what other issues may be causing this warm up clicking in the event that i'm wrong.

Check my YouTube channel. Videos for any tick that 3.7 can have. Let me know which video sounds like yours. I have a new engine in mine now. 5600 miles now running strong.

I know which each ticking issue is. From a wrist pin to a lifter to timing chain.

I've got an 05 188,000 3.7. At cold start up its fine and dandy. When idle drops from 1400 down to 1000. That's when my tic starts. Then stops then starts again. It will tic for a minute or so then stop. Then it repeat in the same pattern and same amount of tics. Until about 150 deg coolant it just stops. The tic starts off quite then it builds in sound then stops and rep

Then post a video. If it goes away when warmed up it sounds like timing chain.

you've hijacked my thread

my problem is intermittent and while it sounds very similar it goes away after a few minutes i'd upload a video example but its fairly warm out today and it doesn't tick

Can't be sure but like tejee said above about it going away when warm, I'm leaning toward timing chain. Mine does this. More of a light chatter that I can only hear when cold and with the window open. Other option would be a failing hydraulic lash adjuster. May take a bit to pump up when cold.

Those tappets aren't known to fail though, that's the thing. It'd be weird that it does away when it warms up if it was that. Those get oil pressure right away (maybe after a couple seconds) and if oil pressure was the issue to cause them to tick I think he'd have a bigger issue on his hands. Like I said, if you can try to look at the videos. Listen to all of them and ignore my stupid voice in the videos.
