Is installing a cold air intake upgrade for 03 KJ worthwhile? Easy install?
What am I expected to get from it? I've seen reports on increased power/better mpg/nicer engine sound etc.

I've seen kits range from 20$-300$. I'd love some recommendations/product links and any tips appreciated.

Junk, pure snake oil, well unless you want hot air more than cold
Stock box and good paper filter does a much better job than any K&N, CAI etc

I would recommend a drop in K&N filter. I had one and saw about a 1mpg increase. I drive in dusty countryside often so always had to replace paper filters. Plus I got it at cost which was the price of 2 paper filters. I have not heard great things about them on the KJ's. I do however love my Nismo intake on my Titan.

Yeah, actually if you look at your stock factory intake it takes air directly from outside and it is true CAI right from the factory. The supposed aftermarket CAI kits suck hot air from the engine bay and don't filter right.

I guess the only real upgrade is a snorkel

I've always wondered about snorkles. Do they restrict airflow? Seems like that much extra length on the intake would make it more difficult for the engine to breath in.

Now that I know the CAI is useless, anyone wanna buy a K&N cold air intake...:favorites68::favorites68::favorites68:

Extra length of the tube -vs- better, cleaner air works out to same air flow as stock or a little better

Heard someone call that a water breather :D haha

Heard that before as well, BUT.....More a clean air breather than a water breather since most are not made water tight in the first place really.
Plus so much more to do to any vehicle to make them ready for a swim LOL

Good enough explanation for me. Anyone have a snorkel laying around that they aren't using.

Oh THAT'S funny! lol.

I highly doubt this... particularly as they are not inexpensive parts. I think last I checked the parts, new are about $300+. Doubt anyone will just give one away. Plus if they took it off and stopped using it, there's that issue of a hole in their front right fender now...

You sure no one wants to give theirs away?! I'd give it a good home :happy175: Thought there may be someone out there who'd given up on their Liberty.

When I bought the CAI I was on the fence about the snorkel, and figured the K&N would be good for now. Would really like to upgrade to the snorkel, but I'm more into a regear (wish I woulda done this when I installed the airlockers), and the new long arm kit JBA is developing. Then new engine and transmission, ARB bumper and winch, then maybe I'll put a snorkel on....
