I have a 2005 Renegade 3.7L and today I noticed my GPS said low battery, I checked the cable and it was plugged into the Cigar Lighter but there was no red light on it. I plugged in my mobile phone charger into the cigar lighter, same thing, not charging.

I then tried the Cigar port in the back, also not charging anything, Tried 4 different devices in both. I checked the Fuse, its #3 in the 05 and is a 20Amp fuse, its fine, I changed it anyway just in case and still no power to it.

Does anyone have any ideas or have had this problem before, I need this Cigar lighter to charge my GPS.

Thanks much for the help any suggesions will be greatly appreciated

Is it an actual cigar lighter or does it have the little 12V cover on it? Sometimes the sockets designed for the lighters don't work quite right with 12V plug in accessories. Sometimes the socket itslef just seems to go bad and not work at all. It is easily swapped.

This.

I've personally replaced the whole socket in my KJ before, when the fuses are still good. And yes... it's an easy fix.

The one in front is the Cigar lighter and the one in the back (boot) has the 12v cover on it. (Its the Aux Power)

Good to know its an easy fix, but it seems strange that both the Aux 12v in the back and the front Cigar lighter stopped working at the same time. And I re-Checked the fuse, and got a new one today just in case it was wonky but not blown, made no difference.

Does the Aux in the back use a different fuse to the one in the Cigar Lighter in the front?

any other ideas of what it could be?

Quick Update on this, Its Fixed.

I found that it was a fuse for the 12v Aux power in the back and it was the connection in the Cigar Lighter in the front. So to answer my previous question, the 12V in the back and the Cigar in the front both have seperate fuses. I took the Dash Panel off and pulled out the lighter and plug, Cleaned it up pushed the pins back for a tighter fit, put it together again and now they are both working.

Thanks for all the help Guys :)

Thanks for posting this info. I'm sure it will help another KJ'er down the road if they have the same symptoms.

Good job chasing down the problem!

Thanks Bob, :) and your welcome, hope it helps someone one day.

Decibelchild, My 05 switches the power to the front off with the ignition, however the Aux in the back is always on.

i have yet to check the back but i dont assume much better... i was just curious if my electrical was tapered with or something because the jeep came in amazing condition. i have only had her for a month and have been having the best times without her failing nor feeling anything less than better than my g/f's kia sorento awd 2013. but hers is a obvious highway vehicle. well other than slighty and i stress slightly less gas mileage.

now from my recent online research it was not. just seems like a odd "feature" to add to my jeep. not handy in my case though. guess the seller jipped me on a lighter haha!

Bummer about the lighter, Congrats on the new wheels, I have had mine for 6 years now and in the last month really is when everything started giving me issues, @ 97000KM (60273Miles). most is sorted now but been an expensive one, The front drive shaft just got replaced, started over heating, so going for a a new aftermarket ****** cooler, while it was there i thought hmmm maybe i should change the shocks so, its getting a 2.5" CRDSTU lift, but then as it is getting a lift i figured i should do the upper a Arms so its getting new JBA A arms.

I then thought well what about Bushes going in all round Clevis etc, Since the new ****** Cooler is going in we thought we would flush and fresh the ****** fluid and filters. And I thought right that’s it, but then my Jeep Specialist called and said, hay got a killer deal on a new ARB Deluxe bar so now that’s going in too, all this cause of a ****** temperature light and then last thing that went was the cigar lighter (now fixed) no cost for that one. phew let’s hope i get another solid 6 years from it otherwise i think I jipped myself, and thats worse!
