Hi all. Saw this on another forum and got me thinking. I'm planning on adding another trans cooler and in June I replaced my original ****** (42RLE) and didn't look for or replace a check ball in the trans cooler lines. When I add the extra trans cooler should I look for the check ball? Anyone ever do this - or even know about it?

Below I've copied the response from the other Libby forum and would like your take - I don't need to replace my ****** 4 months after putting it in... :freak3:

"There is a check ball in the transmission "hose" that the transmission fluid passes by when going to the transmission cooler. You will find this flexible hose attached between the steel transmission cooler lines (that are attached to the transmission on one side and the transmission fluid cooler on the other).

Just remove this line and use a small diameter steel rod (smaller diameter than the line of course) and insert the rod into the hose and tap it with a hammer until you knock the check ball out of the other side.

CAUTION!!! You must remove ALL check ball debris from the hose or YOU WILL "NUKE" YOUR TRANSMISSION!!!! There is also a small spring in there as well that keeps the check ball in place, it too must come out. Blow the hose out really well with compressed air, re-install the hose, and you are done.

I work in a transmission shop, and we constantly get Dodge, Jeep, and Chrysler vehicles with this problem. Most of the time they had their transmissions rebuilt at another shop and the other shops did not remove this check ball so....10,000 miles later...the transmission is completely "nuked" from burnt fluid and overheating due to restricted fluid flow in the transmission fluid cooler.

And always make sure that the shop flushes your transmission fluid cooler completely when they rebuild your transmission, unless you want to just pay $3000 or more to be in the same place a year later."

I'm guessing if nobody's replied then this hasn't come up in the past. My hope anyway...
