Center Caps on Stock Steelies

Are they held on by the lug nuts or do they just pop on and off. I want to paint my wheels black but I want to leave the center caps silver. I do not want to break the caps taking them off.

They clip in, once you take your wheel and tire off on the back side there will be a bunch off little tabs with clips on the end holding them in. You just have to squeeze those and push from the back as they insert from the front side of wheel and they should pop right out.

Earlier models have screws that hold them on from the back
