 good morning everyone, I am new to this forum. I have a 2004 Jeep Liberty 3.7l
I bought it not running. It turns on now but runs really rough and a ton of white smoke came out at first but now it's normal I changed my spark plugs changed oil drained old gasoline put new in. Replaced crank sensor cam sensor maf sensor replaced throttle body replaced coils. Charged battery. But nothing seems to work it still runs like crap it is undriveable because the idle goes so low it shuts off seems to have cylinder misfire. Only code I get is for an 02 sensor. Please help me out guys winter is coming here in Wisconsin and can't continue to ride my motorcycle

I took out a spark plug and there seems to be gasoline on the tip. Also there is perfect compression in all cylinders.

Welcome and sorry to hear that it's not going to well. So what was the cause of it not running in the first place? What is the code number you are pulling?

When I bought it I took off the Valve cover because I had one before that had the same problem and found on the passenger side 2 lifters were not connected they had fallen off and 1 on the driver side I replaced those soaked them in oil for about a day or so and put those suckers back in and the car turned on at first crank but ran like crap.

as far as codes I am currently at work so I can not provide those at the moment. But from my scanner it was 1 for 02 Sensor and that was it.

That's odd. I'm new to jeeps and they're motors, before this I built street cars wrx sti's blah blah. We had something called a Cobb access port to clear 02 or would run a different ems and delete them all together. None the less 02 codes would ALWAYS make the cars run weird but not run at all. Those cars were also tuned. All gaskets are OK? Mine was running really goofy (well just loud),had to replace a bad water pump. Hope you get it figured out!

If the 02 sensor needs to be replaced, get a NTK branded sensors.

The throttle body could probably use a good cleaning or did u get a new one..?and the intake air control (IAC) controls the idle.
Remove the IAC, clean the ports. The IAC can be cleaned but keep it upright, and dont allow Throttle Body or carb cleaner to get in top area, just do pintle & spring etc. If not get a new OEM IAC.
I would after IAC/TB is done, clear codes then start it and check for misfire /02 sensor etc codes again.
Valve damage??
