In the process of replacing my heating core ,one of the hinges on the actual blend door inside the HVAC housing broke. It is the door that controls which vents the heat and AC go out of. It wasn't on the side that needed the gears to turn so you stay plastic welder 2 put it back together. Everything was working fine for a few weeks until it didn't. Heat and AC both worked but are stuck on the default defrost setting. I heard about resetting the AC controls by the dealership but also told that didn't have to. When I turn the knob I hear it wanting to work so it's not my blend door actuator. I think the hinge broke and it jammed the door and it happened to be on the defrost setting when it did. What are the chances that that actually happened? Has anyone heard of resetting the default settings before? Or do I have to pull my dash and fix the actual door? I'm going to try a stethoscope and put it down the vents and see what I can see. Before I pull the dash apart. If you know I need tips or tricks it would be appreciated. Thank you everyone

If it's the same as a KJ then its purely operated by the control knob moving vacuum to the actuator. If there's a computer in the loop then maybe it needs resetting??

There is some sort of module attached to the knobs that can only be seen when you take of the center trim. I read that the system will blow hot or cold air through the defrost as a factory default setting type of thing, and it will resort to the default defrost vents anytime that the HVAC system is opened and worked on. I was just confused because it didn't happen right away. I am waiting on a bi-directional scanner with dealership access to stuff like that so we will see. I'm still going to put a stethoscope down or up a vent to see if it is jammed. But it's hard to believe that it would jam in the default factory mode vents. It just can't be a coincidence. But everyone I've talk to about the issue never heard of having to reset the HVAC settings. They were older gentleman so maybe just not hip to this new technology. I'll start with the actual blender actuator first and troubleshoot the problem from there.

Sorry, can't help much with that, the older KJ just has a basic manual control, if you have climate control then like you say it's probably dealer level computer access to do anything.

I put an endoscope down a vent and saw the old glued on insulator strip around the door has got it jammed. I'm hoping to be able to stick something to the camera that can hook on to the strip and pull up on it unjamming it and not ripping it hopefully
