...about installing the new muffler? Using the stock tailpipe, fitting it into the new muffler. Read that I need a rubber hammer to separate the parts of the old exhaust. My brother told me to use an impact wrench to get the bolts of the clamps off. Anything special I should know about doing this? I'm assuming the parts will be hot after driving so I'll have to wait for them to cool down. Probably just going to raise the rear of the vehicle using the ramp things we have, since that's the area I'll be working on.

If your winters are anything like mine up here, your probably gonna need torches to do this, a rubber hammer will not do it. You are going to have to cut the rear section of original exhaust and fit the new piece in and tighten with a impact wrench.

Save yourself a big headache and take it to a muffler shop and get it done right.

And what Wheeeeee said about jack stands, seen a few people crushed to death trying to save a buck or two doing exactly what you are doing at home.
Why...:confused::confused::confused::confused::

The only thing I'd use ramps for is to test my articulation (or lack of it..):eek:

If that is the original 02 muffler it will probably be a real pain to get off if you don't have a torch. If you have to beat on it you will have that jeep rockin-n-rollin on the jackstands. Be real real careful.

Or.....just take it up to Rick and he will put it on a lift. Probably 1/2 an hour max labor charge with a lift and a torch.

There are no clamps on the stock exhaust and you do not need a torch. Just a reciprocating saw, some 2.5 inch pipe that is 2.5in ID on one end, and some clamps.. If you really want you could have it welded in at a shop later on. My auto parts store had 2 ft length which needed to be cut to length since you do not need the full 2 feet. Took all of 30min to put on..

Here is what I cut off:

We don't have any jackstands here anyway, at least that aren't complete junk, and the ramps are a lot more solid and have more surface area than a jackstand, imo. Thanks for all the tips though guys =] The muffler is supposed to be arriving today, and then I'm going to take it with me to Advance Auto and get some clamps, a gasket, and some piping. And Jeepster, thanks a bunch for the pics--they really helped me figure out what I'm supposed to be doing here =D

No problem. Just make sure the pipe you buy is 2.5in ID on one end so you can slide it over the stock pipe like I did in the pics.

My muffler openings were 2.5in ID so it sled over the exhaust on the back along with the pipe I bought. Worked out great. :)

Installing it as we speak--ran into trouble with the amount of pipe room behind the catalytic converter though, we're experimenting at the moment.

That sounds pretty good.
Nice and throaty when your pulling away from a stop.
Does it drone when you hit 55-56 MPH? Freeway speeds.

Cheers

Not really, it's actually pretty quiet on the road, it's mostly loud when idling and in first gear.

It's supposed to bring it up 1-3 mpg, but I had to improvise a bit on the install so I wasn't able to do the recommended 12" of straight pipe before and after the muffler. I'm sure for the time being my mpg will decrease because I'm going to be driving it so it'll be loud xD Once it breaks in some I'll get a more accurate average for the fuel economy.
