Any ideas on how to fix it without using a cheap wheel cover from walmart?

Get a more expensive cover? I don't have a leather wheel but i have seen some nice made cover kits for steering wheels online, not the cheap covers but a real leather cover that you put on your wheel and stitch up.

No ideas on how to fix but hey mine's looking beat up too. It started as grey but 120K kms later it looks like it has black patches. Thinking of petting a round squirrel while I drive is really disturbing. Can the leather be re-dyed?

Some upholstery shops are capable, especially ones that deal with or specialize in Corvettes.

Had one on my last car, very nice fit and quality! Will obviously make the wheel a little thicker, but it wasn't bad at all. ~$40 for a two-tone LEATHER cover!

I clean/protect my steering wheel and seats with ArmorAll Leather Care Gel. Keeps the leather looking new and it's not slippery.

Mine looks perfectly new. Keep it treated with Megs Leather Conditioner and use a sun visor in the summer.

I think you have to actually drive them to wear out the steering wheel, with what 25000 on an 04 not much chance of your's ever wearing out:D

By the way mines still pretty good at 135,000 and I have never had a cover on it ;)

only 44k here and it was like that when I bought it at 37.5k the wear is very minor on mine I don't even know how it got that if some can make it 135k. Maybe they started using softer leathers or my Jeep's first owner had rough hands.

My steering wheel is all jacked to h@!!. Must be from winter + boating plus the constant abuse of me putting leather care products on it.

I plan to leave it alone. Just adds a cow like character to my interior.
