Why would someone want to install air lockers???? The shop that is doing my lift for me is an authorized ARB dealer and can get me front and rear lockers for a little over 1400 out the door. Plus ARB is offering a deal that if you purchase both lockers you get the free upgraded compressor. :D

I've had more trouble offroad due to lack of a locker than a SFA would have solved. A locker is my dream accessory.

Why wouldn't you want lockers?

Until you wheel a locked 4x4, you will never go back to having open diffs.

1400 installed for both lockers? DO IT. If you don't you're a goober!

X2
my TJ is locked front and rear an can not see having it any other way
I have an ARB in the front and with the Detroit in the rear I almost dont
need the ARB ,almost

I would do the rear first
then decided if you need more
your ESP will do alot more than you know for your open front

Ive put dual ARB's in four rigs. They are great. Id never have anything but a locker I can turn off in a rig that sees street time. Just a personal thing.

A locker is a good idea for the 02-05 Kj's. It increases traction a lot for them. I don't think you “have” to get an air locker if you own and 06 and up KJ. The modern Kj's have a traction control system that is equipped with a nice limited slip feature. If a wheel is spinning in mud the traction control will brake that wheel sending the power to the other wheel that has the most traction. It's pretty effective in my opinion. It got me out of a muddy mess once. And mines a 2wd.

You want a locker more so in a '06+ KJ/KK,that traction control and ESP uses your brakes(primarily) to give it that "locked" feeling which means shorter brake life and the real possibility of overheating your brakes while offroading where they do not cool down very well at 5mph or less.

Oh and once you go ARB's you will be amazed and say why didn't I do this sooner.

you do have a point there tjkj2002

I wouldn't mind getting a locker but why do they have to be so darn expensive :(

Same reason divorces are expensive.

'cuz they're worth it.

What do you WANT to pay for a part of your drivetrain on which strength is the biggest concern? ThunderbirdJunkie will tell you now that $300 doesn't buy much.

HA, so true, and I have the certificate to prove it!

But back to the lockers question. Again, because they are worth it. But then, after what I've spent on my KJ and what I plan to spend on my KJ... ie... steeper gears, lockers, rear bumper.... I could have built a much more capable XJ. But damn, ain't it cool being different?

It's fun to out-wheel the dorkuses on 33" mall terrains in XJs in your mall crawler, because you spend money in the right places :D

Lol you guys are funny. That’s why I plan to not get married. Well maybe but that will only happen after we’ve been together for 30 or so years.

I don't outwheel the dudes in the club here. They have some huge, really capable rigs. But it is fun to keep up and see them stare at where my wee KJ can go.
