Does a 2006 liberty use ground switching on it's hi and low beams, or does it use the conventional +12v switching?

Not quite.
I'd like to add some aux driving lights energized by a relay that is only picked up when the high beams are on ( and a switch to disable then )

It will work - same way I have mine. I just grabbed it at the hi beam line under the hood. Relay is under the hood but I witch the relay on/off from dash switch.
