I just recently bought a used 2006 Liberty Renegade with about 160k miles on it. I've gotten all the usual maintenance up to date, but one problem I haven't been able to solve is with the a/c clutch.

The a/c didn't work at all at first, but after recharging the system it began to work intermittently. After some inspection, I found that the a/c clutch pulley had worn bearings and the magnetic coil was burnt up. I got a new bearing pressed in and replaced the a/c clutch and coil, but once again it refuses to engage.

I tested the wiring harness on the new coil and am getting an ohm reading but not getting any reading from the plug providing the power. The fuses seem fine, and honestly my knowledge ends at that point. Has anyone had issues similar to this or any information that might help me find the problem?

How did you recharge the A/C? Do you know exactly where the leak was coming from?
The system probably will not send power to the coil, unless the high & low side pressures are achieved and are within spec.
Unless you have the proper gauges, specs and PAO oil, maybe this is best left to an A/C specialist to service this correctly & get it working right.
Any metal shavings are a problem too, it needs to be flushed, and new components installed as well.

I recharged it with a kit, before I knew that it was a bad idea. That makes sense. I was hoping to do it myself, but I'll take the advice and find a reputable place to take it to. Thanks.
