Final Report

Well, the jury is in. Replaced both the input and output sensors with new ones and no joy. Still getting the P0740 torque clutch circuit malfunction with the new input sensor. I conclude the torque converter clutch is gone (source of clutch material in original filter) so will replace the 187k mile trans with one with 62k miles. Will also replace the rear crankshaft seal as it is weeping a bit of oil. Why bother on such a high mileage vehicle? Well, the Limited Edition in black has an imposing look. Buffed out it looks new and has the slate grey cloth interior with no sun roof - exactly as I would have ordered new. My wife loves the Liberty and the way it looks so will do whatever it takes to get her in shape. Remember this is a fun vehicle for us to use on dirt roads in North Georgia mountains. Light duty 4 wheeling in luxury!

End of story.....

Kept getting code P0740 - torque clutch convertor circuit error. Finally concluded the torque converter clutch was shot. Picked up a used ****** from Pennsylvania with 84k miles. When I got it, it had a new torque converter on it and the pan was sealed from the factory. Pulled the pan and it was very clean. The factory filter was like new. Installed the ****** and it works great. I could have just installed a torque converter for my original ****** but decided to go with one with 100k less miles. I still feel the 42RLE is a tough ****** to suffer the abuse my old one got and came back to life except for the worn TCC.
