2006 liberty transmission solenoid pak

I just replaced the transmission solenoid pak on my 06 And put the valve body back in. If you reach way up on top of the valve body underneath the car you have to put on the bracket for the gearshift. When the gearshift is in drive the bracket goes on real smooth but won’t shift up to Park or down to 1st very easy at all. If I take the bracket off and put it clear into park the bracket want go on at all. If I put it clear down to first the bracket won’t go on either. Ughhhh It only goes on really smooth in drive. But then I can’t get it into park or down to first. So frustrated. What am I doing wrong? Please any suggestions? Thanks everyone
