Here's my sad and incomplete story. After my initial service on my new Limited KJ, the next day my TPM light came on along with the H/brake light and the ESP/BAS as well as the TCS light, all stayed on, not blinking. Then the EVIC told me 'check TPM system'. Next the Speedometer and Tachometer stopped working. This all happened after an initial stop and restart. Later when I turned the car on it was fine and the next morning the same thing happened. That was 4 weeks ago and it happens everytime the car has not been driven for a while. I took in to the the dealership the next day (by the time I got there and turned it back on it was fine). They gave me the computer jargon and I left it there for them. Picked it up later and of course the next day same problem, lots of warning lights and no speedo. I have been back 4 times and each time I get the same garbage about computer codes and spikes/flashes. Yesterday they told me they found a loose wire behind the dash - problem solved. Today no speedo. Previously they said it could be the instrument cluster which is very expensive and will take 10 days to arrive (like I care How much they have to pay or how long it takes). Today over the phone they said they will try to find out from the head office in Australia if it is the instrument cluster and would get back to me (they didnt but I rang them back - answer 'no one has got back to them')
So I rang the head office and got put through to the service dept. and explained my dramas. The guy straight away told me it was a serious problem (I think he means expensive) and it sounded like a instrument cluster problem but he too would get back to me, however my phone is ominously quiet.
Australia does not have the laws inplace that America has to protect consumers (although I understand such laws are always inadequate) from purchasing lemons. The dealership in question has the worst reputation in my town. They have a large monopoly and own every type of car brand in the one area with a large and very poorly run service dept. The Jeep service dept. is seperate but because of the size of the company its very hard to speak to anyone important that really gives a damn. I expected and was aware of the problems with the dealership but because it was a brand new vehicle I never suspected that I would encounter a serious problem in the first months.
Stay tuned - I believe they are all well aware of the cause of the problem but are over booked and are reluctant to committing to fixing it and are just hoping that its a software problem.
