I bought a 2005 Liberty Limited a few months ago, and when I was test driving it I noticed some flaky behavior of the "Part Time" indicator light on the dashboard. It was worked on by the place I bought it, and they claimed that everything was working.

The transfer case definitely engages just fine, but now I am unable to get the part time indicator to turn on at all. I've been told by the local Jeep dealership that the light isn't supposed to come on and everything is working fine, but I'm not sure that I believe them since I've seen it come on before.

The 4lo light comes on just fine, but I'm confused about how the part time light is supposed to function. I know there are differences between the command-trac and selec-trac transfer cases, so maybe for command-trac (which is the one I have) the part time light isn't supposed to come on?

Any help would be appreciated!

My light got all funky like that for a while as well. It was during the winter after a big snow storm. when the weather warmed up for a few days and it was dry, it worked itself out. now it works fine again. Its a sensor that gets messed up

I have the Command Trac also. The Part-Time light should come on when in 4HI, and the 4LO should come on in 4LO. There should be no light on for 2HI or T-Case Neutral. There is a resistor switch on the top of the Transfer Case that controls the lights. It has no effect on the T-Case operation. The switch is about $50 to replace. This thread will walk you through how to replace it and where to buy it: http://www.jeepkj.com/forum/f202/how-change-transfer-case-position-switch-44188/

Thanks, I suspected that the light was supposed to function.

They replaced that switch after I bought it, but I suspect it may still be poorly adjusted or something.
