So I'm driving out to the mountains yesterday to do a little hiking and stopped at this gas station in a tiny little town in the Shenandoah Valley to...take care of business...

Anyway, the gas station shares the lot with a car repair and sales place that looks like a cross between a junkyard and an antique show.

And what do I spy?

Naturally, I got out and walked around to check it out from every angle.

Then I see a rather serious looking chap walking directly over to me. Busted!

Turns out it was the mechanic who runs the place, getting in a little Sunday OT. When he got up close he broke into a big grin and told me that his name was Jorge and I was welcome to take all the pics I wanted.

He even opened the hood so I could check out the engine compartment.

Power steering - provided your arms could be described as "powerful".

Even had JEN-YOO-WINE bullet holes in it!

(At least, that's what they LOOK like...)

Luxury leather seats!

Where's the stereo in this blurry picture of mine?

Jorge told me the Jeep is a 1952 and is owned by a local guy who has THREE of them. I'd like to see the inside of his garage...

Anyway, it made for one of the more interesting pit stops I've made. :D

Bullet holes... finally something fun to add to the Liberty.

FOUND!!! The bolt that fell and did not land. Kept flashlights, magnets, mirrors, and crystals handy and hunted everytime the dog barked. Seem to have lost a flashlight.

What a cool find!

Prof, your post is kinda like a "jeepKJ.com" version of American Pickers ;)

My forum name is a fond rememberance of my first Jeep, and second a few years later. Both were M38 surplus titled as 1951 year model military Jeeps. Both had 24V electrical systems, "blackout" lights and running lights, and those three toggle electrical switches everybody with any military background probably remember. The second one even had sealed distributor, distributor cap, plugs, and all wiring so it could be run submerged (didn't have the deep water fording kit).

Best I can tell the one pictured is a civilian, but interesting, none the less. Though the enclosure pictured really does resemble the "Arctic Conditions Special Service" top my second M38 was equipped with.

I hope you do not mind me adding some Willy's pictures to you're thread. If so just let me know and I will delete. Recently we had a car show at work and one of the employee's brought her Willy's down. Nothing beats classic Jeeps!

Very nice find Prof, I like Willy's big period.
Can I add my 1956 PU find, that I wanted to buy?

Was for sale 800 miles North of me.

In the end it was going to be expensive to get it here and really no place to store it.
I still wish I would have bought it though.

I would've driven it home for you for a couple of Guinness drafts and a shot of Tullamore Dew!! You really need to rely more on your Jeepin' buddies!!

If it was 800 miles North of TC he must have been buying it off of Santa Claus at the North Pole. You'd have needed a few reindeer to haul it for the first stretch. :icon_lol:

Ya it was winter when it was for sale, not quite that far however, it would have had to get shipped here.
Since it was unproven & old, I would not have wanted to drive it down though the winter Mountains here. I think it's max speed would have been 50mph.
By the time I added a return flight to go look at it, bought it, then got it shipped home it was big$, before any restoration work began!
Suddenly I like my KJ just fine, can still get parts for it.
