I have a '04 KJ Liberty 2.8CRD which recently started to make a loud bang on startup/shutdown. It does not happen every time, and I noticed that if I press the accelerator pedal a bit on startup it might not occur at all.
Do you have any ideas what this noise can be? It sounds (and feels) like if it was coming from the transfer case. The shifter is in P all the time this happens and the transfer case is set to 2H. The Liberty has an NV242 transfer case.
This might be a completely separate issue but I also noticed that when I put the shifter in R from either P or N it makes a bit of a bigger noise than in any other gears.
