its been a while but just to touch base with you guys, and i have a question about a compass. I went in for the recall because i started getting some awkward steering response from the jeep, she was kind of steering herself sometimes it was like i had to fight to keep her on the road. So long story short i went i for the recall, fixed my problem a hundred percent. Unfortunately about 2 weeks post recall resolution i started hearing a clanking noise in the rear when shifting down. After some investigation it seems as if the rear UCA needs to be replaced as well, I have yet to post pics, promise i will soon. Now if anyone knows anything about a compass, My mothers compass is throwing a CKP code as well as 2 random/multiple misfires. She has the 4x4, I plan on changing the sensor with the hopes that will end the problem. Any experience with this guys. Also when she fills up with gas the thing stalls, her mechanic told her that its not a "real" problem. Thats not an acceptable answer for me, just wanted to see if you guys could help me what with your plethora of knowledge on all things jeep, thank you in advance.

The rear lower control arms on mine were recalled. Relatively painless procedure at the nearest Chrysler dealership (according to my fiancee).

The old ones were a stamped U-channel construction. Nothing seemed wrong with them other than the usual surface rust. The new ones are box tube.

Sorry, can't help you on the Jeep Compass.

The rear upper control arm has a ball joint that attaches to the top of the rear diff and and a bushing on each end through which a bolt goes and is screwed into the unibody. No use trying to change out the ball joint and bushings as the arm will collapse when a shop tries to press them out, so just replace the entire arm with a dealer replacement - and ONLY a dealer replacement. Aftermarket arms will fail in short order.

As for the Compass problems, I'm sorry I don't know anything about them. :sad72:
