I replaced the postion sensor today. Took all of 10 minutes after I got the Jeep on the lift. I did reuse the o ring since the new sensor did not have one. And best of all - the problem is now corrected!
I was able to remove the position sensor yesterday and it turned out to be real easy. I used a 1 1/2" socket and a 18" breaker bar. The socket was not very deep - maybe 1 1/2" overall length. After removing the wire connector from the position sensor, I put the socket over the unit, being...
Have not tried it yet. My power steering rack blew last week. The Jeep is in the shop getting fixed right now. Will look at this weekend if the weather is better.
Very cold here today in Chicago. Was minus 27F this morning when I drove 70 miles to Joliet. At lunch, I went out to the Liberty and the steering was very stiff. Examined the pump and it was low on fluid. Filled with a quart and then figured out that the steering rack was leaking very bad...
Where do you live....anywhere around Chicago by chance?
I have a garage outside Joliet with a 4 post lift .....makes getting under the Jeep very easy, dry and warm. I can also likely come up with a crow foot wrench to loosen up that sensor if I can find out the correct size. That is if...
I do not know how I can get this out in the spot it is in and the size of the socket that will be needed to remove the switch. In the mean time I was able to get the light to go out - disconnected the plug wires and secured them out of the way. I agree, it is an idiot light and one can...
Put the car on the lift tonight (happen to have one in the garage) and disconnected and reconnected the position indicator switch plug wires. No change. What do I try next? Is there any way to adjust this?
I have verified the following: When the lever is in 2wd, the vehicle is actually in 2wd. When the lever is in 4WD, the vehicle is actually in 4WD. It is the light that is illuminating incorrectly. As soon as I can get the lLberty on the lift - maybe Saturday, I will try unplugging and then...
Last night we were coming home from the airport late during some snow showers so I was shifting between 2WD and "Part Time" several times in slippery spots on the road. My 2004 Liberty Sport has the Command Trac and auto transmission and 86,000 miles.
After shifting a few times, I noticed...
Same thing happened to me yesterday morning. Went to start 2004 Jeep and it would not turn over. Using a portable "jumper" battery, limped to the dealership. New battery and I'm on my way! Less $159.00 of course!
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all.
Favorite daughter just got home for winter break from college and my '04 Sport definitely needs a wheel alignment. (Too much off roading between studying I am sure!). Does anybody have the alignment spec for this?
It's time to replace the front pads and rotors (warped) on my '02 4wd. Could I have some feedback from those who have upgraded their brakes and what modifications you have made? Yes, I could replace the pads and rotors with NAPA or PEP Boy parts, but I would also like to hear from those who...
The second picture, the one of the complete underside, is NOT my damaged Jeep. Another member posted it in an attempt to show how the Liberty looks on the bottom.
Well anytway, Shelby picked up the Jeep today with the $2039 repair bill. She tells me her off roading days are done until she...
Dealer came back and said both the case and axle were broken. Total estimated repair is about $2K. From the input above, this seems about right. For all those with compassion: Send me a private email and I will let you know where to ship the can of soup for favorite daughter......because...
Favorite Daughter Shelby (yes, named after the race driver and dad's other car) has been known to be a spirited driver, both on the track and off road. The Liberty is fairly new to her, since her WRX was stolen at U Colorado over the summer. As this will put a nice dent in her pocketbook, I...
