    My KJ is gone

The KJ was still going strong. 175,000 miles. It needed a new a/c compressor or a/c compressor clutch, and various things were starting to need replacement as they do with time and mileage. Overall, I was extremely happy with how it performed and lasted and how very reliable it was. Still ran...

    My KJ is gone

It needs to be my daily driver in the cold months and for bad weather. I will live with it stock for a while and then see.

    My KJ is gone

Yeah, the pickup is very interesting to me, as well. Most of the junk I end up hauling around has to be out of the elements, though, so any pickup I would get would need a cap. Thanks! Fingers crossed, but the JK has been around long enough now that I feel like at least a few of the bugs have...

    My KJ is gone

After 15 years of faithful service, my 2002 KJ has found another home, and I have a new ride. I will keep my account and check in from time to time. Thank you all for the information and help you have given me over these years! This is a great forum. The new ride: Later!

Bad Grinding from Front Left when put into 4WD

So, this becomes a case of how much do I hate working on cars. LOL...

Bad Grinding from Front Left when put into 4WD

My googling seemed to show what you say. Thanks for confirming that! Maybe they are only aftermarket and Jeep doesn't offer them? This being a Jeep dealership, they only want to follow the OEM path?

Bad Grinding from Front Left when put into 4WD

They are telling me it is the CV joint on the forward driveshaft, and that the cv joint is NOT serviceable and you have to buy the whole new shaft, part number "52111597aa"?? Is this possible?

Bad Grinding from Front Left when put into 4WD

Thanks for your response! I would have to check my records, but I haven't changed TC fluid in a long time. I am hoping it is a CV joint, as that would not break the bank to fix.

Bad Grinding from Front Left when put into 4WD

Thanks for the tip. I will do that. Right now it is parked in over a foot of fresh snow that just fell over the last 24 hours. So, now is when I need that 4wd capability most.

Bad Grinding from Front Left when put into 4WD

2002 Liberty LTD. V6, auto, 242(?) transfer case - 2wd, 4wd Lo, 4wd Hi, FullTime 4wd. While rolling forward, and I put it from 2wd into 4wd Hi or FullTime 4wd, I get a medium high freq grinding from the left front. I sure as hell don't want to drive it like that. I can only imagine it causing...

Flat Rate on a couple of tasks?

Flat Rate on a couple of tasks? (trans cooling lines, thermostat housing) '02 Liberty LTD, V6 4WD, Auto trans. I have more spare cash than I do time, so... Any idea what the flat rate should be for: 1. replacing the transmission cooling lines. And, are there other tasks called for when...

    Possible Recall 2002-2007?

FWIW, a couple of friends of mine have the Harborfreight trailer that goes for about $399 and it has worked out well for them hauling motorcycles for long distances. You just have to make sure you repack the wheel bearings with good grease when you get it, as the stuff in there from the...

    Possible Recall 2002-2007?

In my opinion, those hitch carriers are no good for anything heavier than a moped. Just get a cheap trailer if you want to bring a real motorcycle along. Your local Craigslist will have plenty of them.

    How-To Install A/C Clutch

I am at work today and have the Camaro, so I can't pop the hood and look, but I wanted to stop and get a puller or set of pullers on the way home, that will work on the compressor clutch and coil. Do you guys think the large one here would work, or do I need something bigger? Three-Jaw Puller...

    Deciding on Shocks

HAHAHA! Yeah, I don't need a punishing ride. Reduction of body roll is not really a goal. It would be nice, but the Liberty isn't a sports car, so I'm not too worried about it. I was just trying to understand what was meant by "better handling" in the OME recommendation.

    Deciding on Shocks

Thanks for the response! Sounds like you have some experience with these things. Trying to make sure I understand you - When you say better ride and handling, does that mean more compliant over road bumps, e.g., less high speed compression damping, and yet also less body roll when cornering?

    Deciding on Shocks

I know I am bringing back an old thread, but what are people currently recomending, i.e., brand and model of shock/strut, for a stock Liberty?

Battery light on, but showing 13.67-13.74

Thanks for all the thoughtful responses, guys! The battery was 7 years old, and with the out-gassing/corrosion issue needed to go anyway, so I replaced it this morning. No battery light now, but I am NOT a fan of fixing things by randomly replacing parts. Had the battery been newish I would...
