I'm going to be changing the oil and gasket on my rear differential on my 2006 Libby. Should I use a paper gasket or apply gasket maker from a tube? And if I use gasket maker, what brand and type is compatible with my gear oil?
Around 99,600 miles. On the receipt: 5 qts 5W20 oil. Called the dealership and the parts guy says, and I'm not making this up, 5W-20's better for the summer. Serves me right. I should have don it myself.
While we're on the subject of my Jeep's bodily fluids, I have two other questions. First, there's a bit of weeping from the rubber plug on the rear axle gear housing. Could this be solved with a new plug? Then there's the matter of the 5W-20 oil a local dealership used when doing an oil...

Also, anyone know, off hand, the allen wrench size for the fill and drain plugs on the transfer cases?

The check engine light went on in my Liberty. Naturally I immediately checked the gas cap and it was loose. But even after three clicks it was still loose. So I bought a new gas cap. Same problem; three clicks and it's still loose. I'm stumped.
It is the strangest thing. There's no kind of wire or plug near the hitch. Could they have installed a tow bar with no harness? That would be pretty crazy.
OK, I went to Amazon to buy a Surco cargo basket. But according to Amazon the Surco racks don't fit the Jeep Liberty? I checked Surco's web site and it says the S4550 fits the 2006 Liberty. What's the deal?
I'm picking up a 2006 Jeep Liberty on Saturday. I'd like to mount a safari type cargo basket on the roof. Surco makes one that looks good, but I don't know if it will fit this jeep. I want one that can be mounted easily to the existing factory rails, and will accept accessories for clipping on...
