This site just saved me a huge headache

Nice. In my experience the ratchet mechanism is what breaks first on those cheap ratchets (which is all I use since I'm just a weekend grease monkey.) The first time I changed my front diff, I used a breaker bar on the fill plug and sheared a 1/2" to 3/8" drive adapter trying to get the thing...

    CB Radios Obsolete?

So I just ordered a Cobra 75 install kit from Right Channel. It comes with the SWR meter, so I'm hopeful I have everything I need to make a nice clean install on my Jeep. I spent a little more than originally planned, but between this and the GMRS/FRS radios I already own, I should be able to...

    New tires and wheels installed!

My wife will not quit doing that. She's killed about a dozen puppies this week. I'm worried my Libbo will start taking it personally.

    CB Radios Obsolete?

Right now I use motorola FSM handhelds. They work great for camping and wheeling. I think I'll probably just end up going handheld CB since the power out is so limited. I might eventually get a simple HAM setup for the house though since licensing seems pretty easy. (although I can already...

Question about bolts needed for hitch.

Thank God I anti-seized the threads when I put them in. They're torqued down pretty well.

    CB Radios Obsolete?

Don't you need a license for a HAM radio? I set up my scanner out last night, and heard HAM operators chatting from somewhere in Colorado over a local repeater. It sounded like a talk show- 3 or 4 guys chatting about tuning their radios.

    Thoughts on the Fuel/Air sensors

Unless your idle is high and/or rough, or one of the other sensors is clearly malfunctioning, I don't think it's necessary to change them. Save yourself the time and expense. It's normal for the IAC to have some deposits on it. I took mine out and used seafoam on a rag to clean it up.

    Time for a new poll...

E! See exhibit 1 at left- airing back up after coming off the trail. The sign says "Road Closed". This was the trip where I learned I needed tow points- luckily I got out on my own (no I wasn't smart enough to take pictures of that...) Out of frame is my buddy's 'yota which is way more...

    CB Radios Obsolete?

Looks like the LA area has the closest CB shops to where I live (2+ hour drive.) :disgust:

    CB Radios Obsolete?

Thanks. I was really just expression frustration that so few people seem to be familiar with CB radios. The odd thing is there are no truck stops around here- the nearest one is about 40 miles away. I figured with all the Jeeps in town somebody would have a CB shop locally. I've found pretty...

How To: Change front driveshaft / change a driveshaft head

Nice. I didn't see the point of putting anti-seize on mine since the whole joint is packed with grease.

    Help ignition won't turn help

If I remember correctly, it was about $280 for a new ignition cylinder and keying to my existing key set. I was having issues for a few weeks though- it didn't just up and quit one day.

    CB Radios Obsolete?

Ever since I started regular trips into the wilderness with my Jeep, I've been considering buying a CB radio. I am aware these need some special equipment as well as peaking and tuning once they're installed, so I decided to seek some outside help. I just spent a frustrating hour driving all...

    Help ignition won't turn help

Try jiggling the wheel while turning the ignition. Your ignition cylinder might be stuck. This happened to mine a couple of years ago and I had to get a shop to change it. It should give you some warning though before it goes. It isn't cheap...

4x4 Problem: I don't want to join the 2wd club, please help!

Glad it worked out. Those front driveshaft CVs seem to be notorious for going bad lately. I just had to rebuild mine- it was full of gunk from my last trail adventure. That CV is in a bad position if you ever drive your Jeep through any underbrush, although a skid plate probably helps the...

Hard shifting. New clutch master cylinder?

You probably just need a new clutch. The pressure plates on mine were starting to go, and then the throw out bearing exploded on me one day- 200 miles from home. I found a decent shop where I was and it cost just under $700 to have a luk clutch kit installed. :pp:

    A/c help

The belt shouldn't affect the AC unless the belt is broken, in which case you'll have WAYYY bigger problems. You probably just need to leak check and recharge your AC.

That's good to know, I think I have 8.8 bolts on my hitch right now :pp:

How To: Change front driveshaft / change a driveshaft head

Once you remove the C-clip, it should slide straight off. If your joint was really bad, i.e. rusted on, you might have to tap it with a rubber mallet to get it out. Be careful though, you don't want to mess up the splines on the end of the shaft.

New here, have a few quick ?'s

I wouldn't even say that. I rented a Patriot on a business trip one, and was absolutely not impressed at all. It was gutless, there's a power lag with the CVT, it only had a 10 gallon tank and still got SUV mileage (I got about 14 MPG, way worse than my Liberty!), and the filler tube had some...
