I wonder who created synthetic oils first...
Was it the lubricant makers or the beauty industry with tanning oils?

Either Way I want to Congratulate The Makers of Synthetic Oil !
It cleans better & is great to help in the friction department. :icon_lol:hump.gif

I use Synthetic (Mobil1) and change it every 4 k miles as well or sooner.

Thinks must be a lot more fun up in Canada, eh? We have a similar game down here in Ohio at the State Fair except we use a greased piglet. I'm going to call the Governor about this idea of yours. :hat:

Penzoil platnium napa gold, twice a year fall and spring.

I'd never make the mileage interval. Winter is too many months of extended idling and cold temps. IE it runs 2-3x as long at idle in the mornings then my drive to work.

Borderline F all difference between 5w 20 and 5w30 but still run 5 w20 in the winter since both are equally as poor and useless at -40.

^ Wow to -40...Now that is Cold! Do u have a block heater or use it?
When using the Ultra platinum -The pour point (-48) 5w-30 is better.

PP is still the same pour point as PUP.. mucho similar viscosity numbers as well. Its all the same to me as 90% of the time your running a block heater. 5w20 pour point goes to -51. Neither temps i see and cSt viscositys that plot on top of each other at the cold range (3.5%@-40 - 10%@-30 ). This is also when those calculators for viscosity go to pot.

Went on the BITOG forums a while back and plotted up a couple brands on one of their viscosity plotting tool links after reading all the 5w20 debates and concluding nothing.

Saw PP was popular and after many people spent hard earned money on Used oil analysis and got favorable results i went with that since my km change interval is 10 - 20% of what their pushing theirs to.

If i only saw -20C i'd be running 5w30 completely. since i've commited to twice a year changes, i switch grades for the marginal / borderline unmeasurable/ imaginary improvment at startup.

Also don't run 85w140 gear oil for similar reasons.

You couldn't pay me to run a Fram filter in anything. Wix, PureOne, NAPA Gold. That's it.

Usually Mobil 1 but sometimes Pennzoil. Occasionally I'll cheap out and use the Walmart full syth. Always Napa gold or Wix. I buy the Wix 10 at a time from RockAuto. OCI is 3-4k.

Once I found out about the cardboard in Fram filters, I never used one again. The AutoZone and O'REILLY by my house have all of the oil filters with the canisters cut off. I had to take a picture of the fram and send it to family and friends to make sure they don't use it too.

SuperTech 10w-30 full synthetic and a Purolator filter in my '07 with 149k miles on it. $20 oil change every 5k miles, and the oil still looks rather good at that point honestly

Ended up going to O'Reilly's and took pictures of some oil filters. The first one is a Fram, second is a STP, third is a WIX. The fourth and fifth are a K&N and a Bosch.

The Wix and Bosch look similarly constructed. I've always steered away from the orange Fram, they got poor ratings. The Fram TG are supposed to be better though, curious of those innards. I have used Bosch before, but have been partial to the STP/AC Delco. I think I may rethink that.

The Fram looks like it has the least amount of filter material.
